5 reasons why we should spend time in Nature

I have been on several walks in various places and these walks have highlighted to me the importance of being surrounded by nature. Nature touches us physically and emotionally. Nature has the power to change us, and here are some of the key benefits of why nature can be good for us.

1.   Make us happier – Spending time in nature can increase our happiness by easing feelings of anxiety and negativity. Furthermore, it can also help in increasing our self-esteem and lowering depression.
2.   Declutter and calm the mind  Surrounding ourselves in nature can significantly help in improving our moods. Nature can help us in feeling more confident in ourselves. Moreover, people who spend time in nature tend to have more of a positive outlook on life compared to those who do not. It can also aid in clearing our minds and removing unwanted intrusive thoughts.
3.   Physical Activity – Things like a gentle stroll, a nice jog, or even a bike ride around the park can help keep us physically active. Being around nature can help us feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Not only are we keeping ourselves healthy by exercising, but we are also keeping ourselves healthy by surrounding ourselves with lush green grass and bushy trees, which can lead to improved health and wellbeing.
4.   Better quality of sleep  Exposing us to the natural world will contribute to a good night’s sleep. Secondly, surrounding ourselves in nature for a long period can help in aligning our body to natural day and night.
5.   Decreases stress – Whether it is work stress or social related stress, many of us go through some sort of stress in our lives. Being in the outdoors, and immersing ourselves in natural environments, will help us to switch off from the worries and concerns of everyday life. The beauty of nature captivates us and attracts our attention resulting in calming our nerves and the whole body.

In conclusion, nature is a vital part for all of us human beings. There is nothing quite as calming as looking at the green leaves and hearing various birds singing as they wander along. There are many different animals, such as squirrels, hedgehogs, deers, and many others who play a big part in the natural world. Nature has many advantages and benefits and can have a positive impact on all of us.

Try and surround yourself in a natural environment and see what difference it makes.

What I’ve learnt from the Netflix Documentary – Alien Worlds

Alien Worlds is a 4-part sci-fi nature documentary that looks into the possibility of life on other planets. This documentary mixes facts with science fiction by comparing imaginary life and creatures on the other planets in the universe to real-life creatures on Earth. They compare the atmosphere with both of the planets as well as showing the similarities between those creatures and how both creatures adapt to their environment on both the planets.  Episode 1  - Talks about the planet Atlas which is double the size of Earth with higher gravity and a thick atmosphere. They are looking at how different species of life adapts to the environment on this planet. This episode focuses on sky grazers and how they adapt and survive on this planet Atlas. It also talks about their predators and how they capture their prey which in this case is the sky grazers. They mentioned prey and predators in Atlas and compared them to similar creatures on Earth. On Atlas, survival is a game of cha...

Why you should wear a helmet when riding a bike

There are some things to consider before going on a bike. One thing which is important to consider is to wear a helmet. A helmet acts as a shield around the head in an event of a bike accident and if that is not worn a risk of an injury is highly likely. The head is the heaviest part of the whole body, and that is more likely to fall first. Wearing a helmet can mitigate and reduce the risk of head injuries such as a skull fracture and some brain injuries. Did you know that a helmet can reduce the risk of structural brain injuries by as much as 85%? Furthermore, wearing a helmet can also provide you with greater peace of mind. Why is water so important?

About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. It is one of the most important substances on the planet, and all living creatures depend on this for basic survival.   We humans and other living creatures need water for our bodies to function normally. Did you know that about 60 to 70 per cent of the human body is water? This substance can benefit us in many ways, such as regulating body temperature, aiding digestion, helping in maintaining blood pressure, prevent dehydration, and much more. Being dehydrated can cause us to feel exhausted and can also worsen our moods. Animals on the other hand, also need water. Like humans, they also need water to help regulate their body temperature, to prevent their body from overheating and to aid digestion. Furthermore, water provides a home for many aquatic animals in the form of lakes, rivers, ponds, seas, and other water forms.  Water is also extremely important for plants. They require...
