Why is water so important?

About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. It is one of the most important substances on the planet, and all living creatures depend on this for basic survival.

We humans and other living creatures need water for our bodies to function normally. Did you know that about 60 to 70 per cent of the human body is water? This substance can benefit us in many ways, such as regulating body temperature, aiding digestion, helping in maintaining blood pressure, prevent dehydration, and much more. Being dehydrated can cause us to feel exhausted and can also worsen our moods.

Animals on the other hand, also need water. Like humans, they also need water to help regulate their body temperature, to prevent their body from overheating and to aid digestion. Furthermore, water provides a home for many aquatic animals in the form of lakes, rivers, ponds, seas, and other water forms.

Water is also extremely important for plants. They require it to function but in a different way compared to humans and other living creatures. Water helps plants by transporting nutrients through the plant. In the chemical reaction photosynthesis, plants need water to create their food and to grow. If plants do not get enough water in their cells, they will droop. Water is what helps keep the plant upright.

A lack of water can cause a drought, which may have serious implications. A drought happens when there is not enough rainfall, and that leads to a shortage of water. The environment is profoundly impacted by drought. An inadequate amount of water would lead to high dust levels, mainly due to dryness and an increased chance of wildfires because of the dry landscape.

Water also plays a big role in agriculture. Water is a vital input for crop production. Additionally, this substance can be used to grow grass, fruits, and vegetables. Without water, nothing can be grown, and we would not be able to have the food that is necessary for basic survival. Food products such as bread and cereals come from agriculture.

In conclusion, water may not sound special, it is clear and colourless, but it has so much value. Water is the lifeblood of our planet. Without this substance, life on earth would not exist.

Who would ever think that a molecule consisting of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen be so important for the world?

What I’ve learnt from the Netflix Documentary – Alien Worlds

Alien Worlds is a 4-part sci-fi nature documentary that looks into the possibility of life on other planets. This documentary mixes facts with science fiction by comparing imaginary life and creatures on the other planets in the universe to real-life creatures on Earth. They compare the atmosphere with both of the planets as well as showing the similarities between those creatures and how both creatures adapt to their environment on both the planets.  Episode 1  - Talks about the planet Atlas which is double the size of Earth with higher gravity and a thick atmosphere. They are looking at how different species of life adapts to the environment on this planet. This episode focuses on sky grazers and how they adapt and survive on this planet Atlas. It also talks about their predators and how they capture their prey which in this case is the sky grazers. They mentioned prey and predators in Atlas and compared them to similar creatures on Earth. On Atlas, survival is a game of cha...

Why you should wear a helmet when riding a bike

Riding a bike is fun, enjoyable, and a great exercise to do. A bike can also be a great transport and can take us from A to B. Riding a bike has many benefits. There are some things to consider before going on a bike. One thing which is important to consider is to wear a helmet. A helmet acts as a shield around the head in an event of a bike accident and if that is not worn a risk of an injury is highly likely. The head is the heaviest part of the whole body, and that is more likely to fall first. Wearing a helmet can mitigate and reduce the risk of head injuries such as a skull fracture and some brain injuries. Did you know that a helmet can reduce the risk of structural brain injuries by as much as 85%? Furthermore, wearing a helmet can also provide you with greater peace of mind. This gives you the ability to cycle without any stress and fear of injury. This can result in enhancing the quality of your bike ride. Riding with a helmet can help in protecting you from unexp...
